Is this image metadata viewer free?
Yes. It is free and runs in your browser with no signup.
Does this tool upload my photo?
No. The image is processed locally in your browser and is not uploaded or stored on a server. Closing the page clears the file from the session.
What metadata types are shown?
The viewer reads EXIF, IPTC, and XMP metadata when present. You can see camera info, exposure settings, image size, dates, and GPS coordinates. Some images contain only a subset of these fields.
Why is metadata missing from my image?
Many apps strip metadata when exporting or compressing images. Screenshots and edited photos often remove EXIF data by default. Try the original file from your camera or phone.
Can I view GPS data on a map?
Yes, when GPS latitude and longitude are available, the tool shows a link to Google Maps. If GPS data is missing, the map link will not appear. Some devices disable GPS tags for privacy.
Does it work with RAW or HEIC files?
Support depends on your browser and the exifr parser. Many common RAW and HEIC files work, but some proprietary formats may fail. If parsing fails, try converting the file to JPEG.
Can I remove metadata with this tool?
No. This tool only reads metadata. Use an editor or export tool if you need to strip metadata before sharing.
